Winona Ryder, professionally Winona Ryder, was born on Winona Minnesota. Parents of Winona Ryder named her for her hometown. The father of her Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder's father came from a Jewish family. Ryder considers herself Jewish. She is also half-sister to Sunyata Jubal. Her older brother is Uria. Ryder's family relocated from Mendocino County to California when she was seven years old. The family didn't have electricity. Ryder who read a lot when she was 12, became a bookworm due to the fact that Ryder was not able to access television. In 1983 when she was 12 years old, Ryder joined the American Conservatory Theatre to take acting classes. In 1986, she got her first big-screen role in the movie Lucas when she was just fifteen years old. Ryder suffered bullying in high school. Ryder hoped her career in acting would end the way she dealt with bullying. It didn't turn out. The actress continued to chase her dreams. Her big break was in 1988 when she appeared in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder continued playing parts that proved successful in a variety of films. In 1993, Ryder was in the running twice for Academy Awards.
