She is also half-sister to Sunyata Jubal. Her older brother is Uria. Ryder's family relocated from Mendocino County to California when she was seven years old. The family didn't have electricity. Ryder who read a lot when she was 12, became a bookworm due to the fact that Ryder was not able to access television. In 1983 when she was 12 years old, Ryder joined the American Conservatory Theatre to take acting classes. In 1986, she got her first big-screen role in the movie Lucas when she was just fifteen years old. Ryder suffered bullying in high school. Ryder hoped her career in acting would end the way she dealt with bullying. It didn't turn out. The actress continued to chase her dreams.
